Last Thursday, we hosted co-workers and their families at our annual holiday party. The event kicked off with a meeting for our team members, followed by a lively game of Affinis Jeopardy. Then, we spent time socializing, eating lots of pasta, and playing a little Jenga.
While we enjoy celebrating the season, we also love to give back. Every year, we host a drive around the holidays, and this year was no exception. We selected Giving the Basics as our beneficiary, because in addition to being local, they also provide items other organizations typically don’t.
Our Dignity Drive kicked off on Monday, December 4 and finished up last Friday. We collected items, like deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, laundry soap, ziploc bags, and cleaning solution. Those donations are then tracked by the organization and distributed to more than 65 pantry locations and 186 schools in over 14 school districts. This makes essential items accessible to 220,000 people each month.
The products collected immediately impact low-income families with small children, students, women escaping domestic violence, veterans, seniors, former prisoners, and the mentally ill. They also help children attending school feel fresh and comfortable in their learning environment and assure adults have the dignity they need to gain employment. This video gives a great overview of their program.
