Relief Well Study and Rehabilitation

Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, Kansas City, Missouri

For over 20 years, Affinis has provided consulting, engineering, and construction administration services for storm sewer improvements and levee relief well restoration at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City, Missouri. Routine maintenance is performed to increase the safety of the levee system and bring the relief wells up to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) standards.

In addition to these ongoing services, Affinis was selected to:

  • Complete an assessment of the existing Missouri River levee relief well system.
  • Recommend improvements.
  • Design them.
  • Observe the installation of the relief wells and manholes during construction.
  • Coordinate with USACE, Kansas City District.

In the past, the relief wells had three to four filter packs. The new designs have two. This change makes the wells less expensive for the client and easier to construct.
