Our Culture
Instead of employees, we have co-workers at Affinis. This small distinction is one of the best representations of how we do things differently. We consider ourselves part of a team. Whether we’re partnering with co-workers or clients, we continue to search for ways to make life easier. Our collaborative approach makes work fun and has turned our co-workers into some of our closest friends.
We operate as a team and strive to help one another grow. All co-workers are eligible to participate in our internal continuing education program, along with external, personal, and professional development classes. Our investment in co-worker development has given us a team of forward thinkers who are focused on continuous learning.
Moving Communities Forward
At Affinis, we understand the importance of forming a connection to the communities around us. In fact, we donate a portion of our profits and time to local organizations. For the last several years, we’ve challenged one another to celebrate servant leadership by performing acts of community service, logging hundreds of hours annually as a firm. We are proud to say our co-workers are involved with city chambers of commerce, school districts, professional and civic organizations, and youth sports.
In addition to choosing their own community service, co-workers can submit ideas for firm-wide volunteer projects. Through their suggestions, we have supported organizations, like Harvesters, American Lung Association, Amernican Heart Association, Children’s Mercy Hospital, and Great Plains SPCA.
The Schmitty
Every year, we recognize one co-worker with The Schmitty Award. This award is named after our dear friend and co-worker Dale Schmidtberger, who passed away in 2003. Recognized by many as a great mentor and friend, we honor him with an award shaped like a lighthouse, because although he is gone, we still think of him as a guiding light. His professionalism, terrific attitude, and warm influence are still felt in our office today.
The Schmitty is given annually to one person who most closely exemplifies the qualities we look for in an Affinis co-worker – a person whose purpose, vision, and values match ours.
