Our Culture

At Affinis, we strive to make life easier for our clients and co-workers. It’s a phrase you’ll hear us use many times, but it is truly how we do business. Working at Affinis offers a number of benefits, but here are some of the biggest ways we’re making our co-workers’ lives easier.

Balance
To support our co-workers, we offer flexible work hours and allow parents to bring their children to work if needed. Toys are available in the conference room in case kids drop by unexpectedly. We also promote outside activities, limit overtime, and equally distribute work.

Collaboration
Instead of employees, we have co-workers. This small distinction is one of the best representations of how we do things differently at Affinis. We consider ourselves part of a team. Whether we’re partnering with co-workers or clients, we continue to search for ways to make life easier. Our collaborative approach makes work fun and has turned our co-workers into some of our closet friends.

Excellence
All of our co-workers are eligible to participate in Affinis U, our continuing education program, along with external, personal and professional development classes. Our investment in co-worker development has given us a team of forward thinkers who are focused on continuous learning.

Servant Leadership
At Affinis, we understand the importance of a connection to the community. We donate a portion of our profits and time to local organizations. For the last several years, we’ve challenged one another to celebrate stewardship by performing acts of community service, logging hundreds of hours annually as a firm. We are proud to say our co-workers are involved with city chambers of commerce, school districts, professional organizations, and leadership groups.

In addition to choosing their own community service, we asked co-workers to submit ideas for firm-wide volunteer projects in 2019. Through that effort, we have supported organizations, like Harvesters, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Great Plains SPCA, and the Church of the Resurrection’s Bookmobile.

Trustworthiness
Providing honest, transparent communication is one way we keep co-workers in the loop. Whether in good or challenging times, we have an open door policy. In addition to quarterly staff meetings, we also have “Lunch with Rick,” our president, to share financial performance information and answer questions. We also publish an internal, monthly newsletter to share company news and support camaraderie.

The Schmitty

Every year, we recognize one co-worker with The Schmitty Award. This award is named after our dear friend and co-worker Dale Schmidtberger, who passed away in 2003. Recognized by many as a great mentor and friend, we honor him with an award shaped like a lighthouse, because although he is gone, we still think of him as a guiding light. His professionalism, terrific attitude, and warm influence are still felt in our office today.

The Schmitty is given annually to one person who most closely exemplifies the qualities we look for in an Affinis co-worker – a person whose vision, mission, and values match ours.
