This summer, we’ve added two interns to our team. Conner Jackson started with us on May 13 and will be serving as a construction services intern. He is a student at Missouri Western State University. Jason Eskina began last week and is a civil engineering intern from the University of Kansas.
We asked each one to answer these questions:
What are you hoping to learn through your internship?
Jason: I am hoping to learn what work looks like on a day-to-day basis for an engineer here at Affinis. I’m also looking forward to getting the real-world experience that you just don’t get sitting in classroom.
Conner: I’m looking forward to seeing everything that goes into to constructing a road or bridge.
As you look for your first job, what kinds of qualities would you like to find in a firm?
Jason: I am looking for a firm that offers a nice balance between work and personal life and also, a culture where co-workers are more like a family. I’d like a place where you don’t have to worry about asking questions and has people who are always there to help.
Conner: I will be looking for a place where employees are respected. That’s really important to me.
What are you excited to do this summer in your free time?
Jason: I am excited to just enjoy the family time I have and be able to relax without all the schoolwork.
Conner: Like most summers, I will be trying to get out on the lake, as much as possible. I look forward to that every year.
What do you like best about your alma mater?
Jason: I would have to say the people and professors I have met so far throughout my time at KU, as well as the friends I have made through my fraternity, or as I think of them – family.
Conner: I like the personal relationships I’ve been able to develop with my professors due to my college’s small class sizes.
