The Missouri Department of Transportation’s (MoDOT) ADA Transition Plan is focused on enhancing accessibility. Every year, they update existing sidewalks for ADA compliance and add new ones to boost pedestrian connectivity. Facilities in Princeton and South Lineville, Missouri needed significant improvement.

MoDOT’s Northwest District selected our Highway Team to design the ADA Improvements for the Princeton and South Lineville project. For both sites, MoDOT is adding sidewalks, retaining walls, signing, and traffic control, as well as reconstructing stairs. While our goals were the same for both locations, each has their own unique challenges and requirements.

Princeton, MO Improvements
In Princeton, Missouri, we are replacing deteriorated sidewalks along US-36 and meeting ADA compliance standards. This applies to not only the sidewalks themselves, but also several driveways along the project limits, which will be reconstructed to facilitate safer access for residents. This portion of the project required the design of multiple integral sidewalk retaining walls. These walls are low-maintenance and easy for contractors to construct. Additionally, the stair design was integral to providing proper access and meeting ADA requirements throughout the corridor.
Here, along US-65, the existing sidewalk will also be replaced, and new sections of the sidewalk will be constructed to provide continuous pedestrian access. This route will significantly improve mobility and safety for residents and visitors navigating the corridor.
South Lineville, MO Improvements
At our second site, the project will address the deteriorated sidewalks along US-65, especially in areas adjacent to businesses catering to heavy truck traffic. Given the demands on the roadway, the reconstructed sidewalks will be built to a thickness of 7 inches to withstand the weight and frequency of truck use. This will provide a durable, long-lasting solution that accommodates both pedestrian and commercial activities, supporting economic development. With these changes, MoDOT shows their commitment to improving infrastructure in a way that meets ADA requirements and supports community needs.
Design for both sites is complete. This project will be let in November 2025.
