Mike McKenna Receives Schmitty Award

Each year, we announce the winner of our firm’s award, the Schmitty. It is given to the co-worker who best models Affinis’s core values. We’re pleased to announce Mike McKenna, PE, PTOE, ENV SP is the 2022 recipient.

The Schmitty is named in honor and memory of our co-worker Dale Schmidtberger, who passed away in 2003. You can learn more about The Schmitty and Dale in the “Our Culture” section of our website.

We asked Mike what this recognition means to him, and he said, “It means a lot. After joining the firm many years ago, I spoke with our past president, Rick Worrel, about the award. He told me what Dale had meant to him and the office. To be seen as someone who emulates Affinis’s values and to be recognized alongside Dale, as well as past winners, is an honor.”

The Schmitty award was designed to reflect our firm’s core values: balance, collaboration, excellence, servant leadership and trustworthiness.

“Our core values are part of what makes Affinis unique. They are a point of focus for our entire team everyday. Having an award that celebrates and aligns with them is incredibly important, because it keeps the cornerstones of our culture top-of-mind. Being in a leadership role, I’m often making decisions that impact my co-workers, projects, and clients. At Affinis, we’re dedicated to building relationships, so consequently, our team is driven to be transparent and trustworthy,” said McKenna.

A Vice President at Affinis, Mike has been a part of our team for 12 years. When asked why he’s stayed here for more than a decade, he responded, “I have stayed at Affinis, because I appreciate the culture and the people. I also like that I have the ability to make a difference in my community through the work we do here. We design and inspect projects in our neighborhoods. We’re creating solutions to issues impacting the streets we drive on every day. That is incredibly important to me.”
