Thornton Street Leavenworth Kansas

The City of Leavenworth, Kansas helps move their community forward by routinely reinvesting in their infrastructure. Every 3 years, they conduct a city-wide pavement analysis to rate each street and identify which improvements are the most critical. As a result, they decided to improve Thornton Street. However, the repairs needed went beyond simple maintenance and required a full reconstruction of the roadway.

The city wanted to transform the busy roadway for residents, as well as north/south and east/west commuters. To meet the current and future needs, Thornton Street, from 10th Street to 5th Avenue, was constructed to include a two to three-lane section with concrete curb and gutter and a 5-foot sidewalk constructed on both sides of the street. The plans also incorporated storm sewer system replacement and expansion to provide adequate hydraulic capacity. Watch this short video to learn how the city’s investment has increased safety and traffic flow for the community.
