Since 2003, we’ve recognized outstanding co-workers who best model our firm’s core values with the Schmitty Award. Today, we’re excited to share Troy Lavelle, a design technician and long-standing member of our team, was selected late last year.

To choose a winner, the three previous recipients collaborate to develop a list of nominees. Those names are given to Kristen Leathers-Gratton, who then, gathers input from the other two principal owners, Mike McKenna and Robert Ubben. Together, they review the candidates and make a selection.

A diligent and quiet leader, Troy is often the go-to CAD design technician at Affinis. Over the years, he’s honed his skillset, and as a result, his work can be seen on many of our most complex projects. While his work sets him apart, it is the way he lives Affinis’s values that make him a natural choice for the award.

“In addition to offering sound technical experience, Troy exhibits our firm’s core values. One of the best examples of this is his commitment to servant leadership. As a longtime member of our recruiting and retention committee, he initiates and leads many of our community service and co-worker events. For our co-workers, he gives his time and talent to making their lives easier. He moves his community forward by selflessly serving those around him,” said Kristen Leathers-Gratton, PE, Assoc. DBIA, President, Affinis.

When asked about Troy, former Schmitty winner Ryan Stobaugh, PE said, “Troy is a quiet guy, who has made a large impact on Affinis. His insight and technical capabilities make him an asset to not only our clients, but others on his team as well.”
