Every year, the City of Overland Park, KS invests in their community by repairing neighborhood streets. As they were carrying out their annual street maintenance program, they realized 115th Street would require more extensive updates than they had planned.
To begin, the pavement and curb had severely deteriorated and required more than a simple mill and overlay. The curb line had dropped significantly as well. The City suspected a potential subgrade issue. To fix it, they would need to completely remove the existing infrastructure.
With the repairs already on the calendar, residents were anxious to resolve these issues. To speed things along, the City asked our Roadway Team to design a solution as part of our on-call survey agreement. We received the contract at the end of September and delivered plans in mid-December. As a long-time partner, we were able to jump in quickly. Both our Roadway and Survey Teams understand the City’s processes and standards, which allowed us to seamlessly begin work.
Our Survey Team was the first on-site for this street reconstruction. They conducted a topographic survey. Then, our engineering experts walked the street with City staff, identifying issues.

Using that data, we formulated plans for the area. Our designs included new concrete curb and gutter, drainable aggregate base, and asphalt pavement. With most neighborhood streets reconstruction projects, Overland Park is moving to concrete roadways; however, they elected to pave 115th Street with asphalt, so it would match the rest of the neighborhood.

Along with these upgrades, the City also replaced all existing sidewalks and added a new section to create a continuous pathway for pedestrians on the east side of the 115th Street cul-de-sac. We also replaced all driveway approaches to ensure a smooth transition to the new improvements. Some of which had been holding ponding water. In addition, we replaced an aging storm pipe that was in poor condition.

Construction on the 115th Street Improvements Project was completed in the summer of 2025. Residents are happy with the changes which enhance their homes and boost walkability. Reinvesting in neighborhoods like this helps move communities, like Overland Park, forward.
