While 2025 is in full swing, our team took a moment to reflect on all we accomplished in 2024. Over the last year, we embarked on a new joint venture, served a variety of communities, and added to our team. Along with our successes, you’ll find details on our goals for 2025 and the improvements we plan to make in this article.

In 2024, our team worked on over 150 projects across 30 different municipal, state, and federal clients. We worked with multiple clients for the first time, after building relationships and establishing a high level of mutual trust. We also brought on four, new co-workers and engaged with over 23 professional and volunteer organizations.

At Affinis, our passion is moving communities forward through holistic engineering solutions. But, it’s not the only way we give back. Collectively, our co-workers donated over 1,500 hours of time to organizations in our communities.

A New Joint Venture (JV) Partnership
This year, we entered into a JV-Partnership with Eastern Shawnee Companies to form the Affinis-Eastern Shawnee Joint Venture. The JV holds an 8A designation, which allows us to serve our federal and tribal clients through set-aside and sole-source contract opportunities. After officially being recognized by the SBA in December 2024, we won our first project with the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma on January 2, 2025. We are excited to see where this partnership leads us in the future!

2024 Award Wins
We provide exceptional design services for more than the recognition, but it is nice to be recognized! This year, our firm stacked up three award wins. Two recognized clients, and another celebrated our culture.

In Olathe, Affinis completed the Stagecoach and Sleepy Hollow Storm Drainage Improvements Project, which evaluated and upgraded the existing stormwater in a neighborhood notorious for flooding. After completion, the lifespan of pipes was extended, stormwater capacity was increased, and flooding issues were eliminated. The APWA Kansas City Chapter honored this project with the 2024 Project of the Year Award.

In 2024, we also completed construction on the Brush Creek Flood Control Project in Prairie Village, Kansas. Brush Creek was flooding onto Mission Road during 1-percent annual storms. After raising the roadway 4-feet and shifting it 12-feet towards Brush Creek, adding new storm sewers, and regrading Brush Creek to improve flow capacity, the project was awarded the ACEC Kansas Engineering Excellence Award.

Along with these project wins, Affinis Corp was selected for the Zweig Group’s Best Firms to Work for Award. This year, we placed 14th in Civil Engineering and 13th among firms with 10-49 co-workers. These rankings are a direct reflection of our co-workers’ feedback. As part of the application process, we were asked to complete a survey to determine our level of satisfaction at work.

Looking Ahead at 2025
As we look forward to 2025, there are several things we believe will be keys to success. The first is looking back at our past work, learning where we can improve and implementing those lessons into future projects. This will allow us to stay in a state of continual growth and development. Another item we will be focusing on in 2025 is balancing efficiency and quality. We will evaluate how we can improve our processes without compromising the quality of our plans.

However, our biggest goal for 2025 is to invest in our co-workers and their career development. Our co-workers are the backbone of Affinis. Their dedication and growth allows us to deliver effective infrastructure improvements that protect residents and support economic development. Investing in them helps us to enact positive changes in the communities we serve.
